Renewal

When a member is selected for testing, they will be notified by one of the following methods: telephone, in person, US or certified mail, email with return receipt or text message. Once notification to the member has been made, they MUST IMMEDIATELY report for testing. Though not specified in the regulations, the following should be used as a general guiding policy: The marine employer must notify the member of the random drug test requirement, ONLY after the employer is sure that the collection site is available and the members schedule allows enough time for the specimen collection to take place. Once notified,  members are to proceed IMMEDIATELY to a designated collection site. (Contrary to the urban legends circulating among some employees, immediately does not mean two hours. Immediately means that after notification, all the employee’s actions must lead to an immediate specimen collection.) It is the recommendation of The Charterboat Consortium that ALL members appoint a Designated Employer Representative (DER) to receive test notifications. The DER is allowed to hold the test (without notifying the member) until such time as it is possible for them to report for testing (i.e. if the member is sick or on their days off, they would not notify them until they return to work.) In the case of a one person operation they could appoint their spouse or booking manager as the DER.
Enrollment covers the cost of random, reasonable cause and post accident drug tests. Return to duty and follow up testing will be the responsibility of the member. NOTE: As of January 1, 2023 the US Coast Guard has maintained the RANDOM TESTING rate to 50% (double previous rate) for mariners. Effective Sept 1, 2024 the membership RENEWAL rates are as follows: $80.00 per person (lower 48) and $140.00 person for members working in Alaska and Hawaii. Renewal rates for NACO members will be $75/$85 provided your NACO membership is current.

Failure to take a RANDOM drug test, within the Coast Guard guidelines, constitutes a refusal to test and WILL be reported to the local US Coast Guard Investigations Office. The failure of ANY drug test (pre employment, random, reasonable suspicion or post accident) will also be reported to the US Coast Guard Investigations Office.

Failure to abide by the above conditions will result in your removal from The Charterboat Consortium and forfeiture of all membership fees.
